I met Morgan well over a year ago by accident. Our kids were playing in the sandbox at the park and we struck up a conversation. We found out that we both were newly pregnant, were both business owners, and enjoyed fitness.
I wanted to get her contact info and hang out again, but at that time I was just too introverted to ask another woman if we could be friends. Through a mutual friend we ended up connecting months later on social media.
As I've gotten to know Morgan better through visits at She She Beauty Lounge, Dame + Heart photo shoots, and over lunch, I can't help but to reflect on that moment I met her in the park. You see, I did that thing we are all guilty of; sizing another women up just based on their appearance.
When I met Morgan I thought she was one of those perfect women. You know what I'm talking about. They have it ALL! She is obvi beautiful, super fit (hello shoulders), has a beautiful family, and is really versed on clean living. That seemed pretty perfect to me. As I've gotten to know her better, I've had a chance to see how unfair it is to stereotype other women.

What’s one thing you wish you could go back in time and tell your younger self?
Life is all about progress, not perfection. I’m much wiser in my 30’s and after having two children and what I’ve learned along the way is that perfection doesn’t exist. Life is messy and complicated, relationships aren’t perfect, but there is so much beauty in just letting go a bit. The laundry may pile up, but those memories made with my family by allowing my perfectionistic tendencies go are irreplaceable and oh so worth it.
What’s your fave self-care or self-love ritual?
The gym! I’ve been doing Crossfit for over seven years now and that hour to myself is my favorite form of self-care/love. I get to tune into my body/mind and tune out the noise from the day. For that hour, I’m focused on a task that is challenging every part of my being. I’m a better wife and mom when I have that hour to myself each day and my family is so supportive of giving me that time. Our health is the ultimate form of wealth!
What’s one really cool/interesting thing about you that people don’t know by just looking at you?
I have scoliosis and had to have a complete spinal fusion when I was 18 years old! By looking at me, you’d never know that I have 2 metal rods in my spine. I had to wear an awkward plastic back brace for TWO years when I was in middle school and high school. I let my circumstances and physical limitations define me for too many years. When I found Crossfit in my late 20’s, I learned to embrace these limitations and find the positives and it’s completely changed my mindset.
Let’s get “vain” for a moment. What’s your favorite physical attribute about yourself? Have you always loved that thing about yourself?
Oh gosh...I would have to say my arms/shoulders. Because of my limitations with my spine and having scoliosis, I rely on my upper body to compensate for my lack of spinal mobility. I have embraced building more muscle vs. wanting to be “thin” and I have more confidence now than ever before.
Can you tell me one time that you felt really insecure but were able to overcome it?
Starting my own business! In the beginning I found myself trapped in that dark hole of wondering what others would think of me. I remember one day feeling “free” of that trap/mindset because I was so passionate about what I had to offer and share with the world through my new business venture. Ultimately being a female entrepreneur and stepping into this role as business owner has done wonders building confidence and surrounding myself with like-minded individuals.
When do you feel most beautiful?
When I walk into a room and exude confidence, that’s when I feel most beautiful. Confidence is something that takes continual practice, positive self-talk and reinforcement. It’s a mindset.
Turns out that Morgan is so much more than the esthetic perfection I thought! She's had to work hard to find her happy place with beauty. I did a Q & A with all of our models for Dame + Heart and I'm going to share Morgan's with you today on the blog. I still think she's perfect, but I also see that she is passionate, kind, encouraging to her fellow womankind and pretty fun to drink rose and do a photo shoot with too!
So no more judging a book by its cover over here! Now I'm just fascinated by the people I'm meeting and want to know more. Would you take a moment to share a kind word below for Morgan?
